Hats Off to Midlands Together CIC for Social Value
Midlands Together CIC was delighted to exhibit and sponsor the SEWM Social Value in Construction Conference in April 2015 which attracted great exhibitors such as the Kier and Mears Groups, the venue was at the University of Wolverhampton. It was encouraging to see so many of the major players in the construction industry take Social Value seriously. The event was the third annual social value conference held by SEWM.
SEWM’s aims? “Firstly - to challenge perceptions, especially in commissioning, underlining the fact that social and environmental values are not limited to health and social care or ‘green’ contracts. Secondly - to showcase and share the best practice that already exists in the West Midlands.”
The aims were successfully met through presentations made by keynote speaker MP Hazel Blears, Alan Smith Director of Kier Group Corporate Social Responsibility, Tom MacDonald Principal of West Midlands Construction UTC and many others. Delegates attending were invited to book face to face appointments in “Meet the Buyer” sessions with individuals from companies such as Balfour Beatty, Keepmoat, Sandwell Council and more. Masterclasses were held where groups listened to case studies and best practice was shared by presenters such as Wilmott Dixon, Speller Metcalf and others on subjects such as skills solutions for supply chain, marketing and measuring your social value.
A fantastic day, brilliantly arranged by SEWM that met their aims and more. For more information please click here.
